Champions League

After a week of tough fixtures for some British clubs, congratulations have to be given to both Rangers and Celtic for their impressive results.

Rangers 3-0 result away to Lyon has to be the result of the week, although most Celtic fans would argue the case for their 2-1 victory over holders AC Milan.

Add to that the Chelsea result. Most people were expecting them to fail - the rest were hoping it. A 2-1 win at Valencia is a very good scoreline, especially given the current circumstances.

High flying Liverpool hosted fourth from bottom Marseille... with Manchester United and Arsenal also winnning their respective ties 1-0.

Talk about a renaissance in Scottish football, both at national and club level.

I was very impressed by the victories of Rangers and Celtic. As for Liverpool, as Alan Hansen would say, "poor - very poor"...

Group A just got A LOT more interesting. I guess 'pool fans were right when they said they had the hardest group of any English clubs.

Yes indeed. But then again are Liverpool generally on a bit of a downturn at the moment?

Good to see you, Keving.

R*ngers were listed before Celtic only due to the descending alpha order of that those paragraphs.

No, I don't know what he meant either... :-)

Great to hear from you, Keving, and thanks for visiting SPAOTP.

Take note, everyone - if you want to read some great writing on the subject of Celtic Football Club, Keving's site is a must-see. Go take a look - it's excellent...

So are you down from the ceiling yet, following the result on Wednesday?!?!?

keving -

Actually, I think it's because r*ngers is a better club.

Thanks for the welcome lads...

Chris o- thanks for the plug. Down from the ceiling? Well due to the idiot on the park i left the stadium sort of bemused and wondering what would happen to us.

I didn't see the incident at the time and the only thing we were hearing was that Dida had been hit.

It ruined the result really did but after seeing the incident and knowing we will only get fined i realise what a MASSIVE result it is in oor recent history. Still don't think we will finish second in the group though.

Adam- it's an unwritten rule up here that if someone puts Celtic first they favour the Hoops and if they put r*ngers first they favour them.

That's how we can tell what team media players favour..well it's the only logic that we can come up wie.

Mind you some use "we" when talking about r*ngers..see Andy Gray, Graeme Souness, Jim White, Gary McAllister...

While Ray Houghton and Alan Brazil use "we" for Celtic as well.

Scottish fitba...it's a paranoid world!!!!!

Yes it was a shame about that 'supporter', Keving. If it's any consolation though, I think the whole world's on Celtic's side with this one. It only went to highlight the puerile mentality of Dida and his insistence on cheating to gain success.

As for favouring Celtic or Rangers, you have nothing to fear with us. We don't even know the meaning of the word 'bias'... :)

Chris o- Dida was an arse, he i think is the only reason we will be let off with a fine

make no mistake we deserve to be punished, the "guy" shouldnae have been on the park....oh if i could meet him....

Thing is i don't want Dida punished..the damage to his rep and the joke he has become is good enough punishment for me...

Chris O said...

Yeah, fair enough - no-one wants to see people running onto the pitch, but it happens from time to time all over the place.

I just think Dida should be banned for a while. After he feined injury some time ago by clutching his face after being hit on the shoulder by a flare thrown from the stands, I think he either needs to be given the boot or given an Oscar - one or the other...

One way I'd like to see a fan run onto the pitch is in response to another fan running onto the pitch.

Imagine: Fan A charges the pitch to give a love tap to Dida. Fan B sees this, jumps over the railing, evades the authorities and levels Fan A before he can reach the keeper. Fan B proceeds to slap the living beejesus out of Fan A.

I'd definitely pay good money to see that.
