Champions League 'You Bet' - Week 2

It's Week 2 of SPAOTP's Champions League You Bet and what a great start we made last time around!

Two weeks ago, you asked us to put our £1 bet on Arsenal and Seville sharing three goals in 90 minutes, and joy of joys, Arsene Wenger's men popped up with all three to earn us £3.75!

That means we go into Week 2 with £12.75 in the kitty, bursting at the seams with confidence and not a little amount of cockyness. Let's now see if you can pick us another winner as we look at the following three choices relating to this Wednesday's Champions League games:

Bet A
Valencia v Chelsea
Chelsea to win
Potential winnings: £2.80

Bet B
Celtic v Milan
Kaka to score the first goal of the match
Potential winnings: £7.00

Bet C
Liverpool v Marseille
Marseille to win 1-0
Potential winnings: £15.00

Don't forget, all proceeds we make from the Champions League campaign this season go to Little League Football, a charity which gives kids the chance to play the beautiful game in a local team where otherwise it wouldn't be possible.

For more details about that, visit the Little League Football website, and for a recap on what this whole crazy You Bet thing's about, check out our Week 1 article.

UPDATE...
Time's now up for you to cast your votes. With 75% of the share, we can now tell you that we'll tonight be hoping that Bet B comes up trumps, so keep your fingers crossed that Kaka weaves his magic against Celtic before they do! Thanks for all your votes, and watch this space to find out how we got on...

Sorry Chris, I don't fancy any of those coming off - I've gone for Kaka' getting the first goal.

But that would require Milan turning it around from the woeful display they put against Catania on Sunday

I'd heard Milan have been poor since the start of the season. Would you agree?

Celtic haven't been as clinical as they have been in recent seasons, so I'd have to go for Milan without any further debate.

I don't think Bet A qualifies as the "safe bet". Valencia is riding high in Spain (5 wins, 1 Loss) and Chelsea is kind of floundering right now.

For Marseille to beat Liverpool at home 1-0 will require nothing short of a miracle, I think.

So the only reasonable bet is B :)

...and therein you realise the fiendish and sneaky way we sow the seeds of doubt in your mind in 'You Bet'... :)

We don't offer a safe bet, as the returns are obviously low. Besides, there is no such thing as a 'safe' bet.

We do, however, offer a 'safer', if Sir would like to purchase that.

Milan have begun to look their age this season. I think this season will be very disappointing and there will be a large turnover this summer. They already have Pato and Gourcuff waiting in the wings. I'm sure they'll find 80 or 90 million euros in the sofa cushions with which to revitalize the side.

I guess you're right, seeing as how, in the first round, I would have considered Chelsea beating Rosenborg a "safe bet". Shows what I know ;)

Good point well made, young Adam!

I wonder what the odds were on that..?

Adam said...

Hah, the bookies probably made you give them more money after the game if you made that bet.

Adam said...

hmm, don't I look like a schmuck

Bugger... 6 minutes too late.

Adam, we'll file your earlier comments under 'Infamous football proclamations' and we'll say no more about it...!

Yes folks, when it comes to supplying you with decent bets to choose from, we excelled ourselves this week. Two out of the three would have provided us with more winnings... it's just a shame that most of you picked the wrong one!

Bet A would have given us £2.80 as Chelsea won away to Valencia and Bet C would have earned a whopping £15 thanks to Marseille beating Liverpool 1-0.

Sadly, as Smart says, we were just six minutes too late to earn £7 from Bet B. Kaka's penalty in the 68th minute unfortunately arrived after McManus had given Celtic the lead in the 62nd minute, so that means our total prize fund has gone back down to £11.75.

Never mind... there's always Week 3 to get some more money in the kitty. Better luck next time!

'You Bet' tip for the future: Read Adam's comment's then go for the miracle option...

Only kidding, Adam ;-)

Harsh, but fair. I guess angels descended from heaven last night and punched Stevie G in the junk!

Adam,

It's all good fun and for a good cause - I'm not having a personal attack at you at all, just the irony of it all I suppose.

It all adds a new dimension to the forthcoming weeks of You Bet, and I still expect to see you're opinions on the choices for Week 3!

Week 3 will be interesting!

I know it's all in good fun. I'll just try harder in week 3 to pull some total bollocks out of mid-air :)

Am I the only one who voted C ?
I love miracles.. :-)

Chris O said...

I'll make sure we have a surgeon on standby for that one, Adam... :)

Ah, Sven - would you be a Leeds United supporter by any chance?!!! :)

I like miracles, but I don't believe in fairy tails. :-)

LOL!!

Adam - I was going to say I'm looking forward to your 'bollocks' next week, but decided against it.

Sven - You're not the only one.

We Love SPAOTP!
