if you're counting loans, Juninho had 3 spells at Boro

We did something similar at Inside Left:

http://insideleft.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/if-you-know-your-history-managing-your-former-club/

In Scotland, we also had:

Celtic
Billy McNeil - played and manager
Tommy Burns - played and manager (also at Kilmarnock)
Davie Hay - player and manager
Kenny Dalglish - player and manager
Jock Stein - player and manager
Lou Macari - player and manager (if only for a weekend or something. Also managed Stoke City twice).

Rangers
Barry Ferguson - now in his second spell at Ibrox
Jock Wallace - managed Rangers twice
Walter Smith - also in his second spell as Rangers manager
Willy Waddell - player and manager
John Greig - player and manager
Scott Symon - player and manager

Others
Phill O’Donnell - was in his second spell at Motherwell before his tragic death last year
George Burley - had two spells as a player at Motherwell
John Collins - Hibs player and manager
Craig Brewster - played for and managed Dundee United and Inverness Caley

And lets not forget Rangers' Kenny Miller, who played for Celtic before moving to Rangers, and then to Derby County before coming back to Rangers, making him the first player to have crossed the Old Firm divide twice!

Hi anonymous... Actually I decided against counting loan spells, but I take your point about Juninho.

Seb - The 'player and manager' element is a new twist... wish I'd thought of it, actually! Congratulations on putting together an excellent list there. Some great names on show!

Steve Guinan and Ben Smith - two spells each with Hereford United

Thanks Organic Bull. Always nice to see our audience adding their own items to our Friday Lists! :)

Mark Hughes Manchester United 1980-86 and 1988-95

Ah yes - a glaringly obvious one if I do say so myself, Chase. Why didn't I think of that?!! lol...

Briane Deane had three separate spells at Sheffield United. 1988-93, 97-98 & 05-06. He's the only player that the Blades have signed three times.
